What Is Koinonia?

Koinonia is the Greek word defined as fellowship – social intercourse. Social intercourse is an exchange of the mind and thoughts. It means a sharing of emotions. A sharing of ideas. It is a sharing of things present and a sharing of things to come. Overall, it means to exchange in a sincere, heartfelt manor with another individual. This kind of bond or covenant is the source for securing a couple who is dating (single or divorced), preparing for engagement, getting married, or restoring a marriage.

What is the Institute of Koinonia Relationships?

The Institute of Koinonia Relationships is a non-profit 501c3 organization consisting of licensed and experienced Chaplains with the vision to destroy the spirit of divorce, one mind at a time. It is an educational institution that provides faith-based Chaplaincy for success in heterosexual relationships.

Our mission is to create a culture of men and women who love each other based on their spouse’s definitions by providing education and training on how to establish Koinonia from seven core perspectives of marriage. The seven core perspectives include: spiritual, social, emotional, physical, psychological, financial, and policies and procedures.

We prepare singles for marriage through the stages of courtship, betrothal/engagement, and ultimately the wedding ceremony. We also provide divorce transition for those individuals who are or who have suffered the death of a marriage and/or family. We stress the importance of fellowship-driven relationships, based on responsibility and accountability for one another, in marriages, using the Koinonia Prenuptial Covenant Agreement System developed by Senior Chaplain Jonathan Grigsby. We also inform the community of the trauma the majority of marriages suffer when the Koinonia Prenuptial Covenant Agreement System is not understood and incorporated as part of the vows and the marriage license.

What is a Chaplain?

A Chaplain is a minister in the workplace. A Chaplain’s goal is to meet the needs of the people, while being a center of resource where required for any situation. The United States Government recognizes the office of a Chaplain as a relevant and vital part of its representation of the people from a spiritual perspective. At times, this form of ministry has proven to be the only religious intervention allowed by law to function under the covering of church and state.

All Chaplains with IKR are certified, licensed, and ordained. The Institute of Koinonia Relationships receives all of its training and licensure for Chaplaincy from the International Fellowship of Chaplains, Inc. We have educated and trained many singles and divorcees across numerous companies, churches, and community outreaches. We also have provided education and training to law enforcement, specifically police departments.

We educate singles, divorcees, and divorcees for effective dating, courtship, and proper transition for an engagement and marriage. We ensure previously divorced individuals that there is hope for them to successfully date and one day re-marry. We also provide couples who find it absolutely necessary to divorce the counsel and training to transition out of the marriage successfully with the objective of educating each person on how to properly transition without experiencing extreme social drawbacks from the process.
